Maldives Ministry of Tourism: State of Emergency does not affect tourism

Maldives Ministry of Tourism issued a statement, which highlights that all tourism related businesses will be operating as usual. It also states that the State of Emergency does not force any restrictions on traveling to the Maldives and airports and all resorts in the country remain open and in full operation.

“The President of Maldives has declared a State of Emergency in the Maldives starting from February 5, 2018 for the next fifteen days.

The government assures tourism and travel trade that all tourism related businesses will be operating as usual and the situation in the Maldives remains stable. The State of Emergency does not force any restrictions on traveling to the Maldives or within the Maldives. All international airports including Velana International Airport and all domestic airports, tourist resorts, tourist hotels, tourist guest houses, tourist accommodating vessels (safari boats), marinas are in full operation. International and domestic flights, sea plane operations and all modes of transport are in operation.

Public safety is of paramount importance and the government assures the safety of the destination.”

H.E. Mr Ahmed Shiaan, Ambassador of the Maldives to the UK also stated: “The Maldives remains stable following the declaration of the State of Emergency. Tourists shall not be impacted by the events taking place in the capital. All resorts throughout the nation’s atolls remain unaffected by the political impasse. Flights, hotels and other companies in the tourism sector will continue to operate as usual. The Maldives Government puts a premium on tourism safety. This will not change in the coming days.”
