Budapest Airport has reported a significant rise in the number of flights operating on important routes to China, indicating a promising recovery in the Chinese travel market.
Shanghai Airlines, in collaboration with China Eastern Airlines, will enhance flight connectivity between Shanghai and Budapest. Currently, the airline operates three flights per week, but starting from the summer season, they will increase the frequency to daily flights. This improvement comes as a result of the airport’s efforts to strengthen partnerships and offer better travel options for passengers. The upgraded services will be provided by Shanghai Airlines’ modern B787-9 aircraft with four classes. These increased flights will continue until the winter season, resulting in a 35% boost in the airline’s capacity during S24. With the introduction of daily flights, China Eastern will offer improved connectivity to South-East Asia, New Zealand, and Australia from Budapest.
Air China is not only expanding in Shanghai, but also increasing the number of flights to Beijing. Starting from the upcoming S24 season, the airline will add an additional flight per week, bringing the total number of weekly flights from two to three. This will further enhance connectivity between Budapest and the Chinese capital.
The positive direction of the Chinese market is highlighted by these strategic advancements, which represent a major milestone in reestablishing strong air links between Hungary and China. As part of their plans for this year, the airport aims to expand their direct flight offerings to China, with the addition of a new destination in southern China to the existing four cities they currently serve – Beijing, Chongqing, Ningbo, and Shanghai.
