Already serving Budapest Airport from East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford and Manchester, the Hungarian capital gateway announces that Jet2.com will add a new service to Birmingham commencing 8 November 2019. With the airline’s additional commitment to increase winter flights on its existing four routes for W19/20, Jet2.com will offer over 30% more capacity from Budapest next winter, with 110,000 seats to go on sale.

Jet2.com services to Birmingham will operate twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays using the airline’s 189-seat 737-800s. The new route itself will contribute 17,000 more seats to the market between Budapest and the UK in W19/20. While more than 49,000 passengers travelled between Birmingham and Budapest last year courtesy of Wizz Air’s existing service, over 36,000 people have flown between the two cities during the first nine months of 2018.
The decision by Jet2.com to invest in Budapest for W19/20 is a further sign of airlines’ commitment to serve between Hungary and the UK, particularly airports outside London. Over 406,000 people flew between Budapest and non-London airports in the UK during the period from January to September, up 11.7% versus the same months of 2017. Along with Jet2.com’s news, Wizz Air will initiate a three times weekly link to Doncaster Sheffield from 28 October, while easyJet will add flights to Manchester and London Southend from November. On top of this, LOT Polish Airlines will initiate a 12 times weekly service to London City in February, meaning all six London airports will be served from Budapest in 2019.
