Skyteam airline member Aeroflot from Russia today had a deadly crash at Moscow-Sheremetyevo airport after engines caught fire.
A hero flight attendant while helping passengers to escape the aircraft died.
SU flight 1492 operated on 2017 built Sukhoi Superjet SSJ100-RA-89098 declared an emergency after takeoff at 15.30 UTC and returned to the airport in flames. The aircraft was last serviced in April 2019. All radio communication was cut off when a fire broke out. The captain returned and landed without controllers knowing what was going on. The plane touched hit the ground three times before slowing down while in flames.
It looked like a flying inferno. Passengers were seen to evacuate but according to preliminary media reports 13 passengers died including two children, more are injured.
The number is expected to rise.
It’s not clear how many foreigners or tourists were on board the aircraft. Russian authority started a criminal investigation.
