Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN) welcomed the inaugural flights of Eurowings’ weekly services to Berlin Tegel and Stuttgart last weekend. Celebrating in style with a traditional cake, Lufthansa’s low-cost carrier’s (LCC) seasonal services double the Airport’s German connections as they join CAN’s established links to Düsseldorf and Frankfurt Hahn.
Commenting on the noteworthy development, Al Titterington, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay said: “The success of Eurowings’ Düsseldorf route clearly demonstrated the potential for further links, and in particular, the demand from German tourists for more inbound leisure routes to our region.” He added: “It’s a rewarding moment when your dedicated promotion of prospective routes comes to fruition and we look forward to welcoming Eurowings’ passengers on these important new services.”
As the second largest country market after the UK to be served from CAN, Eurowings’ new operations to Germany give the Airport a 20% increase in seats to Western Europe throughout S18. Utilising the LCC’s 76-seat Q400s, both flights will be operated on Saturdays, adding another 3,000 seats to the Cornish gateway’s capacity this summer.
