Flights on hold at Honolulu airport

An offshore incident involving a military plane has caused flights to be put on hold at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

No further information is available at this time.

Passengers should check their flight status directly with their airline.

UPDATE: 

The Hawaii State Department of Transportation issued a statement saying flights have resumed at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor, a “Hawker Hunter jet went down in the ocean around 2:25 p.m. after taking off. The plane went down about 3.5 miles south of Runway 8R.”

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam spokesperson Chuck Anthony said the pilot of the small plane was picked up by the Coast Guard about 5 miles off the coast of Sand Island. The pilot’s condition is not known at this time.
