Frankfurt Airport offers more than an exceptional on-site shopping experience! The Frankfurt Airport Online Shop, which debuted in late 2015, has just been singled out to win a Moodie as the world’s best e-commerce platform in the airport and travel retail sector. The British Moodie Davitt Report enjoys an international reputation as the leading arbiter for evaluating trends and innovations and how successfully they are implemented in the travel industry.
Some 15,000 different articles are now available from 11 retailers in the Frankfurt Airport Online Shop. Many of them can even be delivered to the customer’s home or hotel if wished. Frankfurt Airport’s online shop has outperformed competitors like Changi Singapore Airport with its clear structure, ease of use and enormous product catalog offering an innovative mix of top international brands and typical German products (the latter even including some regional items). Also remarkable is how multiple providers are smoothly sharing the marketplace.
“My team and I are thrilled at having won this major award. It has motivated us to redouble our efforts and pursue even more ambitious goals,” says Karl-Heinz Dietrich, who heads the Retail & Properties unit of Fraport AG, the company that operates Frankfurt Airport. “The user figures also confirm that we’re on the right track with our innovative approach. In 2017 we counted more than two million visitors to the online shop, and their number is increasing fast. The product range and our roster of participating retailers are also growing steadily.” The Moodie isn’t the first accolade the company has received; it was preceded last year by the Loyalty Magazine Award, which was bestowed for the Frankfurt Airport Rewards Program and the comprehensive multichannel approach to passenger marketing that Fraport has been pursuing since 2015.
This was the fifth year in a row that “The Moodies – the Airport and Travel Retail Digital Media Awards” were issued to salute best practices in digital and social media use in the airport and wider travel retail community. This time 173 entries were shortlisted in 22 categories.
