Today the Air France management along with French Unions discussed the relaunch of the Paris- Teheran flight as of April 17 with flights three times a week. Just as the financially strained Air France readies to start flying to Iran again, its stewardesses are rebelling against a measure that will force them to wear headscarves when disembarking in Tehran. Unions are demanding the flights be made voluntary.
Air France had to cancel this new flight once more after the resumption of flights will be made after an eight-year hiatus.
Now April 17 will be the day such service will be made permanent as of now. Reason for the delay: Islamic law in Iran requires all women to wear head scarfs in public. It’s also a requirement for women pilots or flight attendance working on flights in and out of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This rule is accepted by all airlines servicing Iran and most arguments are about tolerance and respect for local culture and laws.
Air France now decided flight staff can inform the airline if they don’t want to comply with this policy to be assigned to other flights with different destinations.
Air France operates the Paris – Teheran flight with an Airbus A330 and A340. The A330 has two pilates and eight flight attendants, the A340 operates with two pilots and ten attendants.
