NEW YORK, NY – JetBlue today announced that Fort Lauderdale will be the first of four U.S. cities to launch the next wave of Mint flights, as JetBlue executes its plan to expand Mint nationally on transcontinental routes.
Mint – the airline’s award-winning approach to premium travel – will launch between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on March 20, 2017, offering a new flat-bed experience with curated amenities for travelers across Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Miami and South Florida.
Mint has exceeded the airline’s expectations since its launch in 2014, transforming the financial performance of JetBlue’s transcontinental franchise while winning over customers and stimulating a new market for premium travel.
“We saw that the outdated and outrageously priced ‘business class’ offered by other carriers was a sore spot for travelers,” said Marty St. George, executive vice president commercial and planning, JetBlue. “Our freshly designed, affordable take on premium travel is winning us customers in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and we expect it to do the same in Fort Lauderdale and beyond.”
JetBlue’s expansion of Mint will allow the airline to capture an immediate opportunity to introduce competition in east and west coast markets where customers are faced with a decreasing number of choices and where other carriers sell dated business class options at a high cost.
This wave of Mint expansion will bring new transcontinental competition to Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, San Diego and Seattle for the first time – while also increasing options from New York (JFK), Boston, Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco. Mint service between Fort Lauderdale and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will start later in 2017. Once completed, JetBlue will offer up to 70-plus daily Mint flights to 12 destinations across the east coast, west coast and Caribbean.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood is one of JetBlue’s fast-growing focus cities, serving customers across Broward County and South Florida with a fast and convenient alternative for Miami-Dade travelers. JetBlue plans to expand its operations there to an average of 140 daily flights in the winter in the coming years. The expansion will result in roughly 75 percent growth from the airline’s current size at the airport.
