Taiwan International Balloon Festival (30 June – 13 August 2018)
Held in the spectacular setting of the Taitung Luye Gaotai area, Taiwan’s annual International Balloon Festival is an incredible sight for all visitors as the colourful balloons of all shapes, sizes and designs take to the air. For the best view of Taiwan’s beautiful landscape, hot air balloon rides are available throughout the festival, or enjoy the fun atmosphere with balloon demonstrations, a night glow music concert, a summer camp and even wedding celebrations.
Taiwan’s Culinary Exhibition (10-13 August 2018)
The recent launch of the MICHELIN Taipei Guide 2018 is proof that Taiwan’s capital city now offers a diverse restaurant scene and has helped to showcase its international appeal to all visitors. Taiwan’s annual Culinary Exhibition provides foodies with the opportunity to sample the different culinary styles which are growing in popularity. Ranging from street food to creative cuisine, all the dishes are made with the best local ingredients. Chefs from around the world will take part in dynamic culinary competitions during the exhibition – a great way to pick up some culinary tips to take home.
Keelung Mid-Summer Ghost Festival (August-September 2018)
Every year in the seventh lunar month, Taiwan celebrates ‘Ghost Month’, which is believed to be a time when ghosts wander the land of the living in search of food, money, entertainment, and possibly souls. To mark the occasion, the port city of Keelung hosts the biggest celebrations across the country as part of its annual Mid-Summer Ghost Festival. One of the highlights is a grand parade through the centre of the city with dozens of colourful theme-based floats, music and a variety of folklore performances, just before the release of water lanterns.
White-water rafting on the Xiuguluan River (Until October 2018)
Thrill-seekers can enjoy the exhilaration of white-water rafting on Eastern Taiwan’s largest river which is the only one to cross the scenic Coastal Mountain Range. Xiuguluan Canyon, located in the downstream section of the river between Ruisui and Dagangkou, is home to over 20 rapids, spectacular canyon rock formations and scenery. The entire 24km route lasts approximately 3-4 hours and finishes at Changhong Bridge before the river meets the Pacific Ocean at Dagangkou.
