On course to continue the robust growth Budapest Airport has witnessed for the last five years – set to record its 60th consecutive month of double-digit growth this week – the Hungarian gateway’s expanding 2019 summer schedule has been boosted by Ryanair’s announcement to add six new routes and base two additional aircraft at the airport next year.
Having already announced the addition of Bari, Cagliari, Cork and Seville, to the ultra-low-cost carrier’s network from Budapest next year, the Central European airport has today confirmed two further destinations will be added to its route map. With both services set to commence as twice-weekly, the ULCC will connect Budapest to Thessaloniki and Rimini from May 2019.
Directly serving 15 countries from Budapest, the additional operations will see Ryanair offer 39 routes in total as of S19. As a result of launching a record summer schedule from the Hungarian capital city airport, the ULCC will see the need for two further aircraft being based at Budapest, taking the total to six aircraft. “These new routes and investment demonstrate Ryanair’s commitment to growing traffic and tourism in Budapest,” explains Olga Pawlonka, Sales & Marketing Manager for CEE & Balkans, Ryanair. “We’ll be bringing three million visitors from 15 countries to enjoy one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the world, while continuing to offer our Hungarian customers the lowest fares.”
“Next year’s summer schedule at Budapest is heating up! To continue offering our passengers an ever-expanding selection of great destinations with one of our largest airline partners is a significant slice of our advancement and growth. Basing two further aircraft with us next year is hugely positive acknowledgement of Ryanair’s belief in our desirability,” states Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport. “We value Ryanair’s undertaking and recognition of Budapest, and Hungary, as an attractive market and we look forward to working with our closely-held partner to ensure we continue to dynamically develop together.”
