Singapore Airlines Group’s low-cost carrier, Scoot, sent its first flight to the United States, landing its nearly-full 329-seat 787-8 Dreamliner at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii, today.
The airline chose Hawaii as its first American destination as it is confident there will be a demand for this route with the Aloha State being such a popular travel spot for tourists from the Asia region. Scoot will be the only low-cost carrier to fly a route between Singapore and Honolulu with a layover in Osaka, Japan.
The airline will be flying this new route four times a week, just like its competitor, Air Asia, Malaysia’s low-cost carrier which made its inaugural Kuala Lumpur-Osaka-Honolulu flight in June of this year.
Both of these low-cost carriers may care more about putting themselves in competition with US and Japan carriers for what is normally a high-priced flight from Osaka to Honolulu. Pretty smart way to up the ante on the high cost of operating costs for this popular route.
