The Hawaii State Department of Transportation got approval this month from the Department of Land and Natural Resources to issue Southwest Airlines a month-to-month permit in the amount of $19,900 per month for operational airport space in Honolulu.
The airline announced today it has received that permit to use Daniel K. Inouye International and is in the process of getting federal approval to fly across the Pacific Ocean. Earlier it had announced plans to begin selling tickets in 2018 for service to Hawaii.
So far the airline has stated it will be flying from California locations to Hawaii, but did not indicate if those routes would include inter-island flights.
