Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) was signed between Ethiopian Airlines Group and Boeing 777- 9 aircraft, according to the announcement. This arrangement covers the initial purchase of eight 777- 9 customer planes with the possibility of purchasing an additional 12 jet in the future.
Ethiopian Airlines becomes the first African airline to order the 777X after placing a considerable order for the 20 737 MAX and 11 787 Dreamliners in 2023.
Mesfin Tasew, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, expressed his satisfaction by signing the MoU. They stated that they are committed to adopting cutting-edge technologies to enhance the quality of services and customer service in American aircraft. He added that the 777- 9 will improve operating performance and demonstrate their commitment to sustainability through reduced fuel use and carbon pollution. Mr. Tasew thanked Boeing for their continued cooperation and support, and he looks forward to flying the 777- 9 across African clouds and beyond.
The 777- 9 is based on the 777’s base and incorporates cutting-edge technology from the 787 Dreamliner line. This plane has brand-new carbon-fiber fiberglass wings, as well as cutting-edge engines. In contrast to other fleet families, the 777- 9 achieves a remarkable 10 % increase in fuel efficiency and operating costs.
In order to meet the growing demand in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, Ethiopian Airlines may make use of the 777- 9 to develop and modernize its fleet.
