When the terminals are festively decorated and glow with the light of millions of little lamps, when the air is filled with the aroma of gingerbread and winter chai, and singing angels hand out little surprises, you know that Christmas is close at hand – also at Frankfurt Airport.
During this season, more than 300 shops and restaurants offering lots of Christmas specials transform a visit to the airport into a unique experience. It’s also an opportunity to save on purchases: discount coupons, which are available online and are also being handed out to passengers in the international marketplaces, make shopping especially attractive. This year, as in previous years, singing angels will evoke a very special ambience daily until December 23. Visitors can also enjoy special gingerbread varieties from Nuremberg and Aachen as well as other surprises. And many restaurants and cafés are serving delicious Christmas specialties you won’t want to miss.
The shops and restaurants are also open during the holidays. The stores in town will be closed on the day before Christmas and the last day of the year, but you can still do your last-minute shopping at the airport until 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and until 6 p.m on New Year’s Eve. Everything will also be open on Christmas Day starting at 8 a.m. and on New Year’s Day from 9 a.m. on. It will be business as usual on December 26.
On December 13, the Visitors’ Terrace in Terminal 2 will hold a special “Winter Magic” event: between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., visitors can enjoy the view of the apron and airfield while warming themselves with hot mulled wine (hot punch for the kids), nibbling on Christmas snacks and listening to uplifting yuletide music.
Passengers in the mood to playfully explore the wintertime world at the airport are invited to test their aim throwing “snowballs” in the international marketplaces. There will also be other special highlights during the weeks to come, including a walk-through picture gallery in Piers B, Z and D/E that has been created to aquaint passengers from other countries with German Christmas traditions during this special time of year.
With its slogan “Gute Reise! We make it happen,” Frankfurt Airport’s operator Fraport is systematically focusing on passengers and their individual needs. Fraport is also taking its slogan as the inspiration to develop new services and measures aimed at continuously improving the travel experience and customer friendliness at Germany’s largest aviation gateway.
