Aéroports de Montréal (ADM) today announced very positive results for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2017, with a record 18.2 million passengers welcomed at Montréal-Trudeau and a 10.9% increase in EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) compared with 2016.
Highlights – Passengers
• During the fiscal year, passenger traffic at Montréal-Trudeau increased by 9.5%. This was 1.6 million more than the previous year.
• International traffic increased by 13.5%, domestic traffic by 7.6%, and trans-border traffic (United States) by 6.2% compared with the previous year.
Financial results at a glance
• EBITDA was $281.9 million in 2017, an increase of $27.7 million over 2016. Like many companies, ADM considers EBITDA to be the best indicator of its financial performance.
• The Corporation’s capital investments totaled $229.4 million in 2017 compared with $254.8 million in 2016. Investments in the airports were financed by cash flows from operating activities, including airport improvement fees (AIF).
• Consolidated revenues were $579.7 million in 2017, an increase of $52.5 million, or 10.0%, compared with the previous year. This improvement is mainly attributable to increased passenger traffic and higher revenues from commercial activities.
• Total operating expenses were $196.2 million in 2017, an increase of $19.4 million, or 11.0%, compared with 2016. The difference is mainly attributable to an increase in operational costs namely those related to the planning of future projects, the commissioning of the expansion of the international jetty, enhancements to international arrivals services, winter conditions and security measures.
Recent Initiatives
In recent months, ADM has deployed various measures to benefit travelers:
• The new YULconcert program, launched last November with Cœur de pirate in the airport’s international jetty, continued in March with Alex Nevsky. Just in time for the school break, the singer-songwriter, very popular with young people, charmed travellrs just before their departure!
• In collaboration with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), 100 Primary Inspection Kiosks (PIKs) were introduced in the International Arrivals Hall last December to ensure greater fluidity at border control. In February 2018, 33 additional PIKs were installed in the connections center.
• ADM proudly received BOMA BESt gold certification, attesting to the good energy and environmental performance of the building. Certified BOMA BESt since 2008, obtaining the gold level represents a significant improvement for Montréal-Trudeau. This award recognizes the quality of the building, the excellence of training for employees responsible for building maintenance, and several sustainable development initiatives at the terminal.
• Recent weather fluctuations, especially more frequent periods of freezing rain, are leading to challenges in the speed and quality of interventions on runways, aprons and taxiways. Montréal-Trudeau has invested more than $6 million to replace end-of-life vehicles and add new high-performance equipment to improve its snow removal and deicing capabilities.
