Israel’s decision to revert to the mask mandate 10 days after lifting it will be seen as a blow to the country’s government.Israel recorded 227 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday despite the nation’s successful vaccine rollout.New COVID-19 testing facility established at Ben Gurion international airport to limit the risk of new strains being imported into the country.
Just 10 days after ending the COVID-19 restrictions, the Israeli authorities have reimposed a mandatory mask requirement for all public places.
The decision was announced via public radio by the head of Israel’s COVID-19 response taskforce, Nachman Ash, over concerns that “infections are spreading” throughout the country, with case numbers “doubling over a few days.”
“We have more cities where the numbers are rising and communities where the cases are going up,” Ash warned in his statement.
According to the government officials, Israel recorded 227 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday despite the nation’s successful vaccine rollout.
Israeli health officials fear that the infectious Delta variant, first detected in India, is behind the rising case numbers, as its highly transmissible nature means it can spread rapidly among a population, putting the health of unvaccinated individuals at risk.
Israel’s decision to revert to the mask mandate 10 days after lifting it will be seen as a blow to the country’s government, which has been seen as running one of the most successful vaccination programs globally, having given at least one dose to 80% of adults.
However, despite the setback, Ash was clear that health officials still “hope the vaccines will protect us from a rise in hospitalization and difficult cases.”
With Israelis set to celebrate pride this weekend, the health ministry has called on citizens to, once again, wear masks in crowded, outdoor spaces. This year’s pride march through Tel Aviv is expected to have crowds of tens of thousands of people, having been canceled last year due to the pandemic.
Recently appointed prime minister, Naftali Bennett, warned Israelis about a “new outbreak” earlier this week, establishing a new COVID-19 testing facility at Ben Gurion international airport to limit the risk of new strains being imported into the country. This was paired with an announcement on Wednesday that Israel would be delaying its plans to reopen the country to international tourists.

FlyersRights.org continues its litigation, supported by independent aviation safety experts. The goal of the FlyersRights litigation is to to compel the FAA to release the MAX fix details and flight testing. FlyersRights.org litigation against Boeing will be one of the few ways to achieve truth and accountability for the 737 MAX crashes.
Boeing has settled its civil cases with all but two of the families of the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Boeing 737 MAX crash on March 10, 2019. The ET302 crash, along with the Lion Air Flight 610 crash, just over four months prior, claimed the lives of 357 people.
FlyersRights.org, however, continues its litigation, supported by independent safety experts, to compel the FAA to release the MAX fix details and flight testing. The FAA, at Boeing’s behest, has kept secret all data related to the MAX under a claim of trade secrets, notwithstanding Boeing’s and the FAA’s multiple promises of full transparency.
Boeing has admitted liability for compensatory damages caused by the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crash, and the victims’ families may pursue compensatory damages in Illinois. However, the agreement bars punitive damages, damages that would have punished Boeing for egregious conduct and would deter Boeing and others from such behavior in the future.
“This settlement means that the FlyersRights.org litigation against Boeing will be one of the few ways to achieve truth and accountability for the 737 MAX crashes,” noted Paul Hudson, President of FlyersRights.org. “By avoiding discovery and depositions in these civil cases in addition to having avoided criminal trials and significant fines in its agreements with the federal government, Boeing so far has escaped with merely a slap on the wrist relative to the size of the company and the magnitude of its wrongdoing.”
Notably, Boeing hopes to be able to avoid depositions of CEO David Calhoun, former CEO Dennis Muilenburg, and other employees. Boeing agreed to a deferred prosecution agreement with the Department of Justice in January 2021, paying $244 million in fines but admitting no guilt.

Sustainable Skies Act introduced by Reps. Brad Schneider, Dan Kildee and Julia BrownleyGoal of eliminating net carbon emissions by 2050 builds on the U.S. airline industry’s strong record of sustainabilityThe legislation would establish a blender’s tax credit for sustainable aviation fuel
Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization representing the leading U.S. airlines, applauds the introduction of the Sustainable Skies Act by Reps. Brad Schneider (IL), Dan Kildee (MI) and Julia Brownley (CA). The legislation would establish a blender’s tax credit for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which will spur the production of SAF and help the U.S. airline industry reach its goal of eliminating net carbon emissions by 2050 while also supporting U.S. jobs and energy security.
“A4A’s goal of eliminating net carbon emissions by 2050 builds on the U.S. airline industry’s strong record of sustainability. The Sustainable Skies Act would go a long way toward improving the cost-competitiveness of sustainable aviation fuel, which is crucial to rapidly expanding its deployment by U.S. carriers,” said Airlines for America President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio. “The U.S. airline industry has set an ambitious mid-term goal of making 2 billion gallons of SAF available for U.S. carriers to use in 2030, and supportive measures like the Sustainable Skies Act will enable us to achieve that goal.”
SAF currently results in up to 80 percent less carbon emissions than conventional jet fuel, but it costs three to times as much and is currently only available in limited quantities. The Sustainable Skies Act calls for a performance-based $1.50 – $2 per gallon blender’s tax credit for SAF, which will encourage producers to make more of it and enable U.S. airlines to use more of it. The credit will increase from $1.50 per gallon by one cent for each additional percentage of lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions savings demonstrated above 50 percent, further incentivizing the development and deployment of SAF providing higher emissions reductions.
Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, U.S. airlines were transporting a record 2.5 million passengers and 58,000 tons of cargo per day while contributing less than 2 percent of the nation’s carbon emissions. For decades, U.S. passenger and cargo carriers have been investing in increasingly fuel-efficient aircraft and operating them in more efficient ways, improving overall fuel efficiency by more than 135 percent since 1978 and 40 percent just since 2000.

UK domestic tourism price increases could see British travelers flock to outbound operators in 2022
Domestic tourism prices increase could deter British tourists in 2022.36% of UK residents are ‘extremely’ or ‘somewhat’ concerned about their financial situation. Many UK holiday providers need to rethink their pricing strategy now.
Some UK domestic holiday and accommodation providers have increased prices significantly throughout 2021 amid soaring ‘staycation’ demand and this could deter British tourists in 2022.
UK Domestic Tourism Priced Itself Out of the Market
Increasing prices risks resulting in a lost opportunity for many UK tourism companies that previously had a prime opportunity to increase competitiveness with outbound tour operators. Instead, overinflated prices could effectively price them out of the market for summer 2022 and beyond, when UK travelers are more likely to venture abroad again.
According to Q1 2021 UK consumer survey, 26% of respondents cut out certain products from their budget due to the pandemic. Furthermore, in the same study, 36% of UK respondents said they were ‘extremely’ or ‘somewhat’ concerned about their financial situation, highlighting the travel industry’s need for competitively priced products.
While it has been a relief for the UK tourism industry to see domestic tourism boom this summer, it is disappointing to see companies focus on short-term rewards rather than looking at the long-term stability of the UK domestic tourism industry. Companies had a major opportunity to create a unique British holiday experience and add value in the process. Unfortunately, this opportunity risks being lost for many staycation providers due to an over-exploitative attitude towards traveler demand.
Many potential domestic tourists have compared costs to all-inclusive European package holidays, which typically includes flights, accommodation, transfers, food, and drink, and it has been found that these holidays are often cheaper for the same exact dates as domestic holidays. Moreover, rules are being made more transparent, cancellation and refund policies have been made fairer, and many consumers are fully vaccinated. As a result, the window is closing on domestic tourism’s chance to make a positive lasting impression, and many UK holiday providers need to rethink their pricing strategy now.
With parts of Europe opening to tourists again, travelers are comparing prices more than ever. Ultimately, businesses that are overinflating charges could price themselves out of the travel market, which is self-destructive and not viable in the long term. Domestic holiday companies need to understand the competitive nature of outbound travel operators and the fierce competition they create. Jet2holidays and TUI lead the way in offering package holidays as they have substantial control over their supply chain, passing savings on to the traveler in the form of competitive prices.
On reflection, UK domestic holiday providers’ aggressive approach to cash in on demand appears naive and short-sighted and outbound tour operators are likely to win back old customers quicker than expected as a result.
