Cornwall Airport Newquay gets year-round sun

Ryanair, which operates three routes from Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN), has announced that its service to Alicante will run year round, starting this coming winter. The 1,396-kilometre sector will be twice weekly, operating on Wednesdays and Sundays, as part of its W18/19 schedule from the UK’s fastest-growing airport.

“Winter sun has been a key priority for us for some time and to secure this route year round is great news for the continued growth of the Airport and for the people of Cornwall,” informs Al Titterington, Managing Director at Cornwall Airport Newquay. “2018 has started like a rocket, with passenger records being smashed, as CAN achieved its busiest-ever January with 17% growth. As a result of this news from our partner Ryanair, we’re looking forward to an even more exciting year and we remain confident that a number of destinations will see frequency build.”

“We are pleased to launch our new winter route from Newquay to Alicante with a twice-weekly service, which will operate as part of our Winter 2018 schedule,” says Ryanair’s Chief Marketing Officer Kenny Jacobs. “This route will go on sale next month, and British consumers and visitors can look forward to even lower fares and the latest ‘Always Getting Better’ improvements.”

Ryanair operates three routes from CAN, with summer seasonal services to Faro and Frankfurt Hahn, now enhanced by the year-round operation of Alicante flights. As a result of this expansion, the ultra-low-cost carrier is expected to handle 70,000 passengers at CAN during FY18/19. Since Ryanair returned to CAN in 2016, over 94,000 of its passengers have used the Cornish Airport.
