A Cuba airplane crash happened today, Friday, May 18, 2018, at 12:08 pm local time at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport. The airlines was Cubana de Aviacion, and it is believed that of the 100-plus people onboard, only 3 survived.

The Boeing 737-200 had just taken off when it crashed into thick vegetation just a few miles from the runway. It appears the plane had turned back towards the airport and struck a power line.

Three female passengers onboard Flight DMJ 0972 survived the crash. One has died and two are in critical condition.

A witness said the plane swerved to one side and the engines revved before crashing. There was a huge fireball followed by a large plume of black smoke.

Search and rescue personnel along with residents worked side by side to put out the fire.

There were 5 Mexican nationals that formed the crew onboard. Nobody on the ground was injured.
