The Pakistan Minister for the Aviation Division, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, has told the National Assembly that 609 degrees of employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) have been found as fake and/or tampered with over the past 5 years.

In a written reply to a question by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Tahira Aurangzeb, the Minister for Aviation Division told the House that out of 521 PIA employees having fake/bogus certificates during the last 5 years, 329 have been separated from the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) Service till date.

The termination process of 192 employees is pending due to courts’ stay orders.

While responding to a separate question by Dr. Shazia Sobia Aslam Soomro regarding whether PIA Auditors have refused to endorse PIA’s financial statement, Ghulam Sarwar Khan said that PIA Auditors have not refused to endorse financial statements. However, the accounts are being jointly audited by chartered accountant firms E&Y and KPMG and the audit process is likely to be concluded during April 2019.

The Minister said that the PIACL is working tirelessly in close coordination with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation team and auditors for the resolution of pending operational and audit-related matters. It is expected that the PIACL will be able to complete this assignment within a month or 2.
