Qatar Airways lights up Empire State Building in burgundy

Qatar Airways will add a splash of burgundy to the New York City skyline in honor of Qatar National Day.

Traditionally celebrated on September 3, the National Day festivities were moved to December 18, following a 2007 emiri decree by Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to mark the anniversary of Qatar’s unification by Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani in 1878. The holiday is marked in the country’s capital city of Doha with a parade down the Doha Corniche and a fireworks display at night.

“As ambassadors of Qatari hospitality, we’re fortunate to be able to spread the warmth of Arabian culture to passengers all over the world,” said Eric Odone, Senior Vice President of the Americas at Qatar Airways. “The Empire State Building has been our home in the United States and we’re thrilled to share this national holiday with our American friends.”
