Singapore Airlines introduces Airbus A350-900 in Italy

“We are present in Rome with our flights for an uninterrupted 46 years, and today we celebrate an important milestone. The products and services on our A350-900 aircraft have met the public’s favor, and I am sure that passengers in Rome and throughout Italy will also appreciate it. A larger Business Class cabin, along with the introduction of Premium Economy on this route, expands the offer to our most demanding customers,” commented Subhas Menon, Singapore Airlines Regional Vice President Europe.

Subhas Menon’s brief speech was introduced by Carmen Sinatra, Airport Services Manager and Master of Ceremony, also giving way to the Roman Centurion parade, to the vestal dance, and Chinese classical lion dance.

A link started on June 6, 1971 when the first flight of today’s SIA landed in Rome with the historic name of Malaysia Singapore Airlines: 46 years of success for both SIA and Rome’s Airports (ADR), whose recent innovation is the new E area boarding at Terminal 3, a state-of-the-art area that re-evaluated Leonardo da Vinci’s Airport image with a more appropriate perception of “Made in Italy” through passenger services in line with major international airports. And this is where the event culminated with the A-350-900 baptismal ceremony carried out by firefighters during taxiing on the Rome Fiumicino-Singapore route.

The A350-900 configuration replaces the first class with a larger Business (42 armchairs) and a new Economy Premium (24 seats), as well as 187 Economy class seats. The 253 passengers (maximum capacity) will enjoy a better travel experience thanks to the tallest ceilings, wider windows, and brighter environments, plus a lighting system that reduces the impact of jet lag.

SIA and Rome Airports (ADR)

“The arrival of the new A350-900 of Singapore Airlines, coupled with the recent increase in frequencies, which is four times a week, represents for ADR another major achievement in terms of the development of air traffic to highly-strategic markets such as Southeast Asia,” said Mr. Gobbi, representing Fausto Palombelli, the Chief Commercial Officer of Aeroporti di Roma SpA. “The constant and excellent improvements made by Singapore Airlines are a further confirmation of how Fiumicino Airport has reached levels of excellence in passenger and airline services – a result also confirmed by ACI Europe’s official ranking that sees Fiumicino first in terms of quality perceived in the second quarter of 2017,” concluded Mr. Gobbi.

Terminal E, inaugurated in December 2016, has become a worldwide reference point for comfort, convenience, and quality for shopping as well as food and wine offerings and cultural enterprising initiatives.

Ground and onboard services

In this scenario, Singapore Airlines customers will be able to spend quality time before embarkation, including dedicated services, initiatives, and infrastructures. Thanks to the use of advanced technologies and increased operational efficiency, the new aircraft offers passengers a superior travel experience that will enable the company to introduce new destinations, including nonstop flights between Singapore and the US with the ultra-long-range, expanding links from the Singapore hub and offering the option of choosing the new Premium Economy.

“The Great Singapore Airlines Getaway”

A new promotion has also been launched by Singapore Airlines. “The promotion is extended to some SIA Group network routes operated by Scoot, thus enriching the choice of destinations, such as Krabi in Thailand. Passengers will also be able to choose the comfort of Singapore’s Premium Economy, our new travel class for travelers who do not want to give up travel in comfort,” said Teck Hui Wong, Singapore Airlines General Manager Italy.

In addition, as part of the “Singapore Airlines Getaway Promotion,” passengers will benefit from the purchase of benefits connected to each type of airfare: Singapore Stopover Holiday (SSH) promotional rates for those who buy tickets through the airline’s website, along with mileage programs for particular bookings.

The first Green Package flights to the World

SIA and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) have collaborated to reduce international air transport emissions. Thanks to the use of the latest generation and low-energy aircraft: SIA Airbus A350-900 – Green Package flights are the first in the world to combine the use of biofuels on low-energy aircraft and flight operations optimized. SIA, in cooperation with CAAS, has launched an experiment of 12 “Green Package” flights over a period of 3 months on the nonstop route San Francisco-Singapore with the global commitment to reduce international air transport emissions.
