South Dakota cities left without passenger air service

Passenger air service has stopped to the Two South Dakota towns were left without passenger air service after California Pacific Airlines has stopped flying there.

Watertown Mayor Sarah Caron and Pierre Mayor Steve Harding said in a statement that CA Air has stopped service to their cities on Sunday.

CP Air provides essential air service to the two South Dakota cities. The mayors say both their communities currently have no scheduled air service and there is no information indicating that it will resume.

Harding says his city — the state capital — relies on air service for state and federal employees and business people.

The mayors say the Department of Transportation has called for proposals from airlines interested in serving Pierre and Watertown. The deadline for submitting proposals is Jan. 30.
