Strike! Frankfurt and Munich Airport

German Union Verdi is calling for a strike at the two busiest airports in Germany: Frankfurt and Munich. This is according to a post on NOP, the Network Operation Portal. NOP is known for being well informed.

The strike will have an impact on check in, baggage handling, security checks and the airport fire departments.

Travelers should expect major delays and inconveniences between 3.00 am and 4.00pm on Tuesday. There is a chance such a strike could be extended also to Wednesday, April 11.

FRAPORT already informed the strike on its internet portal www.frankfurt-airport.com/en
The alert reads:

Due to a public sector strike at airports across Germany on Tuesday, April 10, major disruptions and flight cancellations are also expected at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). In particular, the security checkpoints for Piers A and Z in Terminal 1 will remain closed during the strike. Thus, passengers checking in at FRA for flights departing from an A or Z Gate will not be able to access the respective pier to get to their flights. We also expect longer waiting times at all other security checkpoints during the entire day. Passengers are therefore strongly advised to allow extra time for their journey and to check in as early as possible. If you travel to Frankfurt Airport by car, please take into account that access roads to the airport may be affected by strikers’ demonstrations.

We recommend that passengers check the status of their flight on their airline’s website and take advantage of online rebooking options or contact their airline, before traveling to the airport. Passengers, whose flight has been cancelled without any immediate rebooking options, are kindly requested to avoid coming to the airport.

Flight information is available on the website of the respective airline or by calling 01806-FRAINFO (01806-3724636 – flat landline rate of €0.20 euro cents per call within Germany) and via the Frankfurt Airport App. Current updates and more information on affected flights will also be available at www.frankfurt-airport.com/en.
