Sunday Christmas Travel Nightmare spreads to Southwest Airlines in Atlanta

Due to an airport-wide power outage at Atlanta-Hartsfield International Airport (ATL), Southwest Airlines has canceled all remaining operations in/out of ATL today, December 17.

Southwest Airlines posted to their website: There is nothing we value more than the safety and security of our Customers, and we are closely monitoring the situation at ATL. At this time, we plan on operating our regular ATL schedule on Monday, December 18.

To provide additional flexibility, Customers who are scheduled to travel to/from/through ATL on Sunday or Monday, December 17 or 18, and want to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge. Don’t expect free hotels – it’s not an option for Southwest Airlines passengers.

Customers who purchased their itinerary via Southwest.com or our mobile app are eligible to reschedule their travel plans online or from their mobile device.

Customers who did not purchase a ticket via Southwest.com can call 1-800-435-9792 to speak with a Customer Representative.

Customers in the U.S. scheduled to travel internationally must call 1-800-435-9792 to speak with a Customer Representative for assistance with rebooking.
